This video was shot, in one take, on December 14th at the Great Dickens Christmas Fair in San Francisco. I had wanted to do a project with my friend, the director Jenessa Joffe, who I went to college with at Wesleyan. Then the Vermillion Lies girls showed up and it got even better.

It's set to "What's the Use of Won'drin'?" (featuring Annie Clark of St. Vincent) as it appears on "Who Killed Amanda Palmer".

Merry everything
Long live the punk cabaret!

Love,
AFP.

"What's the Use of Won'drin'?" by Rodgers and Hammerstein for "Carousel"

Video directed by Jenessa Joffe
Cinematography by Brian Outland
With assistance from Annabel Ibanez

Thanks to The Great Dickens Christmas Fair, Dark Garden Corsetry (who loaned us costumes), and the fine folks of San Francisco

That was brilliant! If I may ask, how did you get the slow-motion effect while still lip-syncing? Inquiring minds want to know!

    To answer Cristophe,

The effect was established by threatening time with our wrath if it didn't chill the hell out for five minutes while we filmed the video.

    But in reality,
The film was shot at a very fast speed. In order to keep the actors (and Amanda) synced, the song was played at an equally fast speed on an ipod. Just imagine Amanda singing in a mock chipmunk voice at 2x speed while we were filming and you will get the general idea.

That was a quick turn around. Good job on the final video. :)

Yeah, I have a Final Cut Pro plug-in that does that. It rocks.

    :)

Thank you! It's a beautiful piece.

Loved it! Merry Christmas Amanda! I missed The Great Dicken's Christmas Fair this year, but I do usually go every year, so I know it well. What a perfect setting! Amazing!

Amanda, you are definitely the muse of the new millenium. Society needs people like you to remind them that all is not "peachy-keen" in this American Wonderland. Thanks, merry Christmas, and may God bless you always.

Very cute manda , will have to watch that play you disagree with never saw it but like blame that drama teacher, maybe godspell instead is what you wanted. loved the smile at the end, your're so damn good. tell us about it again if you are up to it, the play.

  • i love the irony; the sweetness of the tone to the brutally honest truth of abuse. that is always a good doze of amanda. loved it. don't stop. you inspire me to write better songs.

Well it sure made our day a bit different at the Dark Garden Booth at the Dickens Fair ;)

If I don't hear otherwise from the director of the video (or anybody else involved in the production of the video) in the next day or so, I'll post some of the images I took during the video shoot and of Amanda (with/without the lovely Vermillion Sisters). Probably as a gallery on Facebook. I am glad it all turned as well as it did under the conditions (the phrase 'herding cats' comes to mind with anything to do with our Dickens Fair).
