This is a story about a guy named Chris that works for a design firm. His eccentric boss, Mr. Becker, gives him an opportunity that he can’t refuse and a deadline with no margin for error. The day of his deadline is the same day of the annual staff Christmas party, which culminates with the unveiling of Chris’s newest design. Chris’s stress level rises as a series of interuptions from Craig, the company’s IT guy, begin to hinder his progress. As his prensation approaches and time is counting down Chris is faced with a dilema that could hold the future of his company in the balance.

Wow, this was =so= professional. I allmost wanted to kick you in the nuts when I read "to be continued"... but then it WAS continued, and I loved it.

By the way I don't really get how this is a christian message only. I'm not a christian but I can totally relate to the message!

    Final conclusion: =very= inspiring.
  • josh peters plus 11 months ago
I totally I agree. It doesn't have to be a Christian message... but we thought it could also be a metaphor.

God is always saving people but you just don't realize it until you need it.

    Glad you liked it!
  • Robert-Jon Eckhardt 11 months ago
Could you give me some hints on how to write a compelling short storyline? I've been wanting to shoot my second short and I've got a clear view on what I want the photography to be like, but I just don't know how to start on a good storyline.

The storyline on Saving Christmas was not a wonder in originality (deadlines/demanding bosses/stupid colleagues are present in sitcoms all around) but somehow it caught me from the beginning. I can't quite grasp what it is that makes it so.

Any hints on this would be very much appreciated.
  • josh peters plus 11 months ago
    First, thank you.

Well, I'm not sure how much help I can be. This was the first screenplay that I have ever written. But I will say this.

I think the most important thing is to define some type of tension and build around that. We knew we wanted to create a metaphor here, but we weren't sure what story we would tell.

Our tension was...we all have a time when we need saving from something but we don't realize our need until the bottom falls out.

So, the story took shape once we starting brainstorming different ways to put that tension into a story. The characters came about through brainstorming and then I just wrote the dialogue based on actual experiences and people I know.

The script and story changed a lot throughout the writing process but the tension always remained the same.
