I actually did this awhile back, whenever the Rutt Etra plug-in first came out, just to see what it looked like... I just stumbled on it, on my hard drive, and I thought it looked pretty cool. It's a good example of the "luminosity" feature on it.

What it happening is that I'm feeding a video image to the rutt etra "renderer" patch. Then I am flicking a bic lighter around like a big nerd to make distortions on the z axis.

Yeah, can't take credit for anything on this one as far as "clever ideas" go...

Vade is truly one of the pre-eminent Quartz Composer users, and has recently started coming out with some interesting plug-ins.... which I am still kind of getting a feel for, and can't say I am too familiar with yet. This actually overlaps some things that I had been trying to achieve with a modified GL Height Field plugin (from the apple developer xCode project examples), so I inherently find the Rutt Etra interesting....

The luminosity feature of this is really awesome... just the thing that would be great at a live concert if you were to pan a camera out to an audience full of people waving lighters (this was kind of my proof of theory test on using it like that in the future). In a really dark room, it has an effect almost like a laser or something.

Oh, thanks vade! I'll definitely do that, I do happen to have a few cool things with the Rutt on the backburner (generative landscape mainly).

It was a great idea originally, and it was really amazing that you pulled it off in QC... (makes me think that the GL Height Field example must have been based on the Rutt in the first place?).

I have only very recently been getting into using your plugins (though I constantly comb the internet for plugins and xCode projects, so I've had them for awhile). I have to say that they are really really impressive. At first, I thought "why the heck does blur need to be in a plug in and not a CI Filter?", but actually using the plugins quickly answers any questions.

I'm noticing in the past two days that the blurs can add a whole other dimension to the look of QC... and that's saying a lot for what amounts to 3 filters! But it is true. The frame-rate improvements are an added bonus.
