ONE DAY ON EARTH creates a picture of humanity by recording a 24-hour period throughout every country in the world. We explore a greater diversity of perspectives than ever seen before on screen. We follow characters and events that evolve throughout the day, interspersed with expansive global montages that explore the progression of life from birth, to death, to birth again. In the end, despite unprecedented challenges and tragedies throughout the world, we are reminded that every day we are alive there is hope and a choice to see a better future together.

Founded in 2008, ONE DAY ON EARTH set out to explore our planet’s identity and challenges in an attempt to answer the question: Who are we?

We are glad you asked, we love this contribution! ... It is a wedding ceremony in Kosovo and this custom is to prevent bad luck. Check out their original contribution in our geo-tagged archive from the day:

From what I understand, it is VERY rare and there is only one person in the village that still practices this custom. As you will see from the hands in the above video, she is a village elder. I believe they are training modern day make-up artists so the cultural heritage does not get lost.

Our grassroots effort started back in 2008. The films will be very different. We went to great lengths to make sure that we tell a more accurate story of daily life and use this opportunity to inspire change via an ongoing online community.

It was tough to get them all, but thanks to our great partners and a super helpful online community, we did it :) We also donated 120 cameras which the UN used to engage the communities they serve in some of the most under developed countries. It was a real nail biter though, we didn't hear back from a couple people in Congo (Brazzaville) and scrambled last minute to find an available filmmaker the morning of.

We're planning to go bigger on 11/11/11 !

My brother started a filmmaking firm here in Iceland in 2003 and we've been working together ever since. We've shot on DV (in the start) up to RED equivalent, once on 2x EX1 cameras and the last one we shot on Canon 5D.
But I've been an avid film lover my whole life, and would love to contribute to such a project as yours.
