17. Novacut Slice and Sequence Prototype
After our extensive UX research, the next step is a large number of rapid UI prototypes using HTML5. Built in open dialog with artists. We've made it a year on our own, but at this point we can't keep going without your help.

Please help spread the word about our Kickstarter campaign, and if you can, back our project:

Know web technologies? Join in and build prototype variations yourself! Here are the files we used:

Plus code is on Launchpad:

Big thanks to James Raymond for all the beautiful design work and programming. Be sure to see the standalone slice demo also:

Very good! are there transitions we can put in between the slices
  • Jason Gerard DeRose plus 7 months ago
Yes, we'll be able to do transitions like you can do with any multi track editing software. However, I'm not sure it makes sense to try to show them in the storyboard view... will take some testing, rounds of feedback.

But the idea is that you can flip between storyboard and timeline view at any time, use whatever is fastest and most productive for current task.

As always, thanks so much for watching!

So, um, what if once Novacut is decently usable, we sent you a fast new laptop with Novacut ready to go? Saw that your computer hardware was pain point with your videos, so wheels started turning :)

We would be honored to have someone of your caliber using Novacut early on.

Wow thanks jason. That would be great! I'd love to use Novacut early! I have upgraded now to a slightly faster machine and I think it does a better job than before. Just the honor of being able to install and use Novacut and give it a run would be amazing!

Re: the flipping between storyboard and timeline view is just great! I am also quite interested about time-remapping/slow motion features on the storyboard view and timeline view.

I love that you are thinking about this from a different perspective. Can I be devils advocate?

The head and tail frames do not correspond with the next clip in this layout, though you refer to them as a story board. Could you stack them vertically instead? Or would that be to time based?

Could you drag portions (copies/dupes or extractions/lifts) vertically stacked slices across the screen as spare reels or collections of shots?
