I will the be 4th to agree. I believe we need more stories of a journalistic nature that explore and issue rather than exploit it. Well done!

A truly amazing story. The biggest impact for me is that its refreshing to see an entirely legitimate use of medicinal marijuana. Not to say that those out there using medicinal weed are faking an illness just to get a prescription, but its not just another airy fairy reason being used to try and get weed legalized. People preach about its medicinal effects where they don't really have a real reason other than they want it legalized. Its great to see that there are people solving real issues with it and not using it as leverage for legalization. The fact that she is able to enjoy a better quality of life is outstanding and its awesome that you got to be a part of documenting it.

Very well told and produced! Congratulations.

I think a 'California is a place.' channel is past due.
  • I thought we set up a channel, many moons ago. Did we miss something?

Also, is there some way to organize our vids into separate sections for the public?
  • Sam Morrill staff 7 months ago
I stand corrected. It looks like you did: vimeo.com/channels/115780

Hasn't been updated in a little while, though. Give it a snazzy badge and we'll add it to the list of featured channels:

I've always found your work incredibly inspirational, so know that I am speaking as a huge fan when I say that I actually didn't think this was up to the standards of some of your work.

The story of a woman coping with MS is an interesting one. However, the way you chose to handle it left me wanting. The way you weaved together her illness, her passion for synchronized swimming, and her turn to medical marijuana felt awkward to me. I didn't get a sense of a clear structure to the piece - it seemed to jump between the different aspects.

The idea is here, but I don't personally believe the execution is up the standards you've set for yourself with pieces like El Rey and Cannonball.

Wow. I started watching this one a couple days ago when you posted it...had to run out the door a couple minutes in and figured it was a light-hearted piece on senior synchronized swimming. Just got a chance to watch the whole thing and I'm left speechless. In response to Rabi, I think that the lack of structure is what is brilliant about this...it's about synchronized swimming...and medicinal marijuana...and the health care system...and aging...but above all, it is about the human experience.

Anybody can buy a 5D and take pretty pictures but if anyone is doing a better job at conveying what it means to live and breathe in CA than these two I have yet to see it. Well done as always.

Love this video. Felt it was mis-titled, though. The way it's put together, it's about a woman getting losing her strength as she gets older and finding ways to cope with it. It's not really about synchronized swimming, though the swimming photography is quite fun to watch.

A touching documantary film! That was an accurate observation of the real human life. Your social story gives a whole number of ideas. One can be impelled to think of something everlasting that helps to distinguish the essence from the immaterial. Whether intentionally or not, you've taken advantages of a brilliant symbol of instantaneity, cyclicity and steadiness -- the water. Was it your author's message? Or did it happen to be so? Splendid!
