This was before the Fix for the Crushed Blacks

I got it Chrismas eve but I was sick all weekend and never made it outside. It is pretty sweet . On the photography side coming from 1.6x cams for 5 years this thing has crazy shallow DOF.

Nice, what lens did you use?
  • Lucasberg (Joey) plus 11 months ago
    A few of them, 50 1.8,70-200 2.8L,24-105 F, and Sigma F3.5 180 macro. Thanks

I really like this camera but it's just too expensive so I guess I'll just stick with my HF10... But it sure does produce nice results!
  • Lucasberg (Joey) plus 11 months ago
I will still keep my HV20 for action stuff too, but now I'm happy I don't need to take 2 cameras alot of places.

    Amazing DOF and awesome footage.

What was your experience with the workflow? I mean is it fast or slow? Also most 5D mark II seem to have a slight shake to the handheld footage and does the camera/lens have any kind of stabilizer?
  • Lucasberg (Joey) plus 11 months ago
    Thanks Jared,
I have done a few videos and if its really short I just edit frame by frame in the original .mov format, but the 2 longer home videos I converted to the Cineform avi that comes with vegas7. I have a duelcore 2.8ghz with 3 gigs of ram so it's not a fast computer anymore. It takes about 6-8 times the original length of the video to convert. I have 2 lens that are IS but the rest are not. It will shake handheld but Im pretty good at finding anything I can to brace up on.

Drooooooollll.................. Me want! Wonderfully understated yet gorgeous shots my friend! I'm still holding out for a Scarlet, but this new 5D MII makes me think twice!!!
  • Lucasberg (Joey) plus 11 months ago
    Thanks Stephen
I too would like a Scarlet. I was thinking it will be at least a year before they come out and are ready to buy for the Soccer dads like me haha. I figure I had some decent glass and I figure I can film some cool stuff between now and then, plus this cam rules as my upgrade from my 40D.

Wery good quality fotage! What dof adapter do you use?
  • Lucasberg (Joey) plus 11 months ago
It's straight out of the cam no adapter. It's a full fram D-slr. Thanks
  • Magnus Ekström 10 months ago
Great now I have read in to it and want one. Congrats to a great camera. :-)

The video plays choppy. Is that the original footage or is that just Vimeo? I waited until it was fully loaded before I started playing.

Do you notice any stuttered video?

Also have you tried hooking it up straight to an HD TV with the Mini HMDI? Footage looks amazing that way.
  • Lucasberg (Joey) plus 11 months ago
    I think it's vimeo.

I have hooked it up straight to the 50inch plasma , awesome. I usually watch all my videos through my PS3 though.

Gagagagaga yagayagayaga drool drool... B&H is calling my name, "Aaaarrrroooonnn, we have the 5D Mk II waiting for youuuuu....." Who needs Steve's Digicams to sell me on that camera when I can just watch this simple little clip. Very nice.
  • Lucasberg (Joey) plus 11 months ago
B&H called my name and I folded like a hot Hershey bar. Thanks man.

Great shots. Did you do any color correcting?
  • Lucasberg (Joey) plus 11 months ago
Thanks, Straight out of the camera. It tends to be contrasty and vibrant. I have tried toning it down but I like the contrast and color.

Great work as always Lucas ! damn man how many cameras do you have !!? And I'm buyin this camera to try to do some wedding this spring . Do you think EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM is good or do I need to spend more money ? what do you suggest?
  • Lucasberg (Joey) plus 10 months ago
    Thanks Craig
I just sold 40D and my Tamron 17-50 to help pay for my 5D2.
The 28-135 is a F5.6 lens so if you want to do lowlight no flash pic's it might be tough. If you plan on using flash then no problem. I used to have the EF 24-702.8L but it was too big and heavy for me, I usually left it at home then I bought the Tamron .

Thanks Lucas I mainly mostly want to shoot video and take a shot at doing weddings . So that lens is a f5.6 . So I can only get one lens for atleast right now. what do you suggest ? but it has to has a good IS (I dont want a rolling shutter or jumpy picture) to work with my hv30
  • Lucasberg (Joey) plus 10 months ago
That lens is your only option for a cheap IS lens. I'm using a Tamron 28-75 2.8 lens right now as my wideangle.

  • Steven Brace 10 months ago
Hey do you know if you can use old manual lenses, like seccond hand manual nikon or canon primes, on the 5D mkII in video mode or do you need to be using canon glass so that it knows what aperture you're set at ect?

The camera is awesome and is tempting for the price, but i wouldn't be able to afford lots of new af lenses.
  • Lucasberg (Joey) plus 10 months ago
I believe you can. I think alot of people are using old lenses with an adapter. I doing the set the Fstop and twist it a little if I need a special Fstop.
  •
  • M A Welker 10 months ago
Incredible Lucasberg, is this just the 5D, no adapters?
  • Lucasberg (Joey) plus 10 months ago
    Thanks
It was the 5D2 and 3-4 different lenses.

  • Brian Boudreau 10 months ago
Awesome shots and DOF. did you color grade? the colors a great
  • Lucasberg (Joey) plus 10 months ago
    Thanks Brian
The colors were straight out of the cam with default settings. I tried toning them down in other stuff I have shot but I like the vivid stuff.

what's the sound like and how is the lens it comes with?
  • Lucasberg (Joey) plus 10 months ago
The sound is way better than I expected and good enough for home movies. The lens that came with it was nice but I sold it.

WOW, any render setting advice? THis is super sharp. what NLE did you use?
    Great Work.
    Tach.
  • Lucasberg (Joey) plus 10 months ago
    Thanks
I use Vegas 7 and render to the free cineform avi for 30fps previews and render to mainconcept mp4. This was also before the crushed balcks fix from Quicktime too.
  •
  • Tachmurat Tachev 10 months ago
    thanks for the info Lucasberg,

I use vegas 7 too, but i never manage to get the results you get. do you know if there is any way that i can render to VCD format without the loss of sharpness in the footage? (or at least if there is any way to do a high quality VCD format render) i am just new to this.
so you use mainconcept mp4 for Vimeo?

    thanks again.
    Tach.
  • Lucasberg (Joey) plus 10 months ago
Im not sure what VCD format is. Usually if you drop resolution it wont be as sharp. I render to the Mainconcept mp4 in a custom template of 1920x1080 30P.

Fab footage there Lucasberg. Love the shots that really show off its low light capability, like the little girl in profile on the sofa. Oh and the cat's stunning!

I got my 5D2 yesterday and can't wait to get stuck into playing with it.

    Thanks for sharing!

    Great footage!

My wife and I are plotting how to justify getting the 5Dmk2.

Latest reason is that IF we have kids...we want to be consistent with great footage and justify all our L series glass we already have!!! Not sure we can buy L glass AFTER the expense of kids!

BTW, the song sounds like a remix of The Magnificent Seven theme song ( from the old movie imdb.com/title/tt0054047/ )

How are most people pulling focus while shooting video with Canon 5D?
