Nice tips, but isn't it hard to do all this work, whan you have to film something fast, so you don't have time to focus right
  • Jan van der Meer plus 11 months ago
No its only for your next Hollywood production of course! :-)

Can you do manual focusing just with the camera or any cheap adaptor to the lens? It really sucks when you're filming and you can't change the focus manually while recording.
  • Jan van der Meer plus 11 months ago
Of course you can with almost all camcorders, but here we use a special setup search for the channels or groups containing Letus on the right!
  • Vedia 11 months ago
Jan, y was refering to the HD1010 that I have it, and I cannot do manual focusing while filming, and I was wondering if there is any cheap solution to this.

Is there any way to do it?
  • Jan van der Meer plus 11 months ago
Focussing with Xacti while recording is not possible, but with the Letus mini you can! When I know what I want in focus I lock the focus. The auto foucus works perfect for me on the HD1010 better as the Sony types! It even works quicker if you just press the photomode for a second. When I work with the Fish Eye the macro focus even works reasonable well in autofocus as you clearly can see with the warm cover clip on the freezing boulevard! Have a wonderfull 2009 and keep in focus!

Tie Rip = Fancy Zip Tie?

Can you fit a letus on a HF10? I guess I could google it.
  • Jan van der Meer plus 11 months ago
The one showed is standard 37mm but can fit on a bit larger lenses (you have to zoom a little anyway too the projectionglass) and smaller.

Hey Jan, thanks once again, you are a treasure of knowledge :-) BTW: have you ever seen this steadicam clone? b-hague.co.uk/hague_mini_motion_cam_steadicam_type_camcorder_stabilizer.htm
I ordered one and plan to review it on Vimeo.
  • Jan van der Meer plus 11 months ago
I have tried several smaller/lighter ones like Sachtler, Manfrotto Modo, Merlin etc. but no one can compare with the good old Steadicam Jr. But for this price its worth a try. A very important part is the construction of gimbal and if you can balance it easy.

I just got one of these cameras, and it's great, however, I cannot, for the life of me figure out how to get it to output to my TV from the Dock. I have a Dell 26" HDTV/Monitor with two inputs for Component, and two inputs for S-Video. I've tried using all of them, and I get no picture on the TV. I have the camera in the dock, it's set on "Playback" mode. When I press the button on the dock to turn it on, my computer reads it via the Dock's USB, but the camera's playback menu does not show up on my TV. If I have the viewfinder open when I do this same procedure on the camera when it's in the dock, I get a menu that comes up asking if I am connecting to a PC or a Printer? The instruction manual is no help, nor is the online manual. Any ideas? I can't find any answers anywhere. Very nice video by the way. :D

    Hello Jan,
First of all, thanks for all the tips about the Sony FX1000. Thats a lot of work, just to help others.

I need a good camera to make about 50 or more short instruction films for my work. (the computer system is brand new and up and running already)

My best choice so far, is the FX1000.
Looking for articles about it, I stumbled over this website.
I'll follow the progress of your testing it and will report back when I have the camera.

  • moonzang 9 months ago
it's 'letus' and they're online, and they're not cheap, but look like the cheapest way of getting a 35 mm lens on a mini dv camera by far
  • Jan van der Meer plus 7 months ago
Yes and you dont need to put your camnera upsidedown like others!

Hello Jan-- Could you give us the name and manufacturer of the little screw-tightning plastic attachment that you used on the focus ring of your lens? I've searched for these for years and have never found them. Thanks!

I was thinking how great it would be to rack focus while shooting with the hd2000 and I saw your video. Wonderful! Only to find out the letus mini costs twice the amount of the hd2000.....now I'm sad
