Sidewalk cafes have dramatically enlivened the street life of downtown Chicago in recent decades. As hard as it may now seem, these staples of city living were forbidden in Chicago until the mid-1980s when Friends of Downtown launched a successful lobbying effort to legalize them. Join Friends of Downtown and the Illinois Restaurant Association for a look at how sidewalk cafes have dramatically reshaped downtown dining in the summer.
