Still Life: Israel Eats Itself (2008) (10:33) super 8, dv, surveillance camera. Art video derived from documentation of 5.1 surround and action painting performance. Performer covers his body with a black substance, then scrapes it off and eats it. The sound art, composed in 5.1 surround, incorporates a field recording with a PTSD afflicted Israeli veteran, in which he quotes the biblical verse: "...Israel will become a people who eats each another." The imagery echoes Goya's 'Saturn devouring his children.' and references Chassidic philosophy.
