Battery Park Urban Farm
In New York City's Battery Park, just a few blocks from where the Twin Towers stood, this urban farm grows. This new urban farm (started in April, 2011) involves at least eight area schools and is shaped like a turkey in honor of a wild turkey named Zelda who roams downtown New York City. It is lined with a fence made of bamboo repurposed from an art exhibit last year at the Metropolitan Museum of Art (and grown in Georgia).
This is the first time that crops have grown in this location since the Dutch settlers farmed this land.
