This piece is a stop motion of the game of pong being played on Janss steps at UCLA. The piece loops seamlessly. I chose to use people as the game pieces of pong because of the recent trend to add more physical interaction to video games (see Wii). You will also notice the sound effects in the video are recordings of my voice with minimal digital editing. Again, this was to convey the human element of games. Finally, the piece revolves around the concept of Anamorphosis. The paddle at the top of the stairs has multiple people while the bottom paddle only has 1 person. The ball also adds people as it moves up the stairs. The ultimate goal is to make both paddles look the same size and the ball to always appear the same size.
