Heath and Samara - Wedding Teaser - HD
You may remember Heath and Samara's epic engagement shoot video from a few months ago.
In preparing for Heath and Samara's wedding, Katie and I were worried that we wouldn't be able to top the photos and video from that day.
A menacing storm stalked us the entire day and when it came time for the photo session we needed to decide whether to stay safely indoors or press on to the chosen location (about 25 minutes drive).
It was a gamble either way. Do we stay or do we go? With a gorgeous couple waiting and a storm at our heels, we requested divine providence and went for it.
The results are something that couldn't have been captured at any other moment in time.

Considering that most times, optical image stabilization is killed when you use and adapter, the hand held short DOF shots are quite steady. And of course, the Merlin shots are butter.
cheers
I use two different cameras - a Canon XH-A1 with the Brevis 35mm adapter and a Canon XH-A1 with the Merlin handheld. It's a pain to carry both cameras with me but it's worth it.
As for how I decide when to use which, that's tough to answer as I operate a lot just on instinct. I'll see something that could work well with the Merlin and I'll go for it. I also have a few set shots in my head that I try to do each shoot.
Recently I've been doing less Merlin stuff on each shoot. Mainly because handheld it can take two or three tries to get it right. While I'm stuffing around doing that I could be getting solid, well composed non-Merlin shots.
You have 2 XH-A1s? Not fair.
I wish I had money to fly you to the states for my wedding this summer
good decision to take the gamble!
Photoshoot time really depends on the couple and the day. We usually ask for 2 hours - that way it's heaps of time to get some great shots and it's a more relaxed time for the couple. Rather than it being go go go all the time. Usually after the photography (my wife Katie) has finished her shots of a certain pose or moment, I'll then get the couple to repeat it for the video. Works out really well. I also keep shooting while the photographer is working with the couple to get some extra footage from different angles.

Heath is a good mate of mine . I have the %D and Im shooting video with it and I use Final Cut but I have one problem when I render it , the pans etc are glitchy, do you know as to why and if you do, what do I need to get rid of it.when you view it through the camera, its perfect. You both do awesome work, keep it up and one last thing, whats a merlin? Pete :)
i'm in dire need to know what you used to get this Color grading. My Wedding is this coming july 11th, and if i cant afford a videographer of your caliber, then im hoping that i and the guy i partner with now for video can achieve at least close to this grading.
Also, just continue to better your creative. Im proud to see that there are videographers out there that can actually create what i've been envisioning.
Great camera work..
Looks stuning!!!!
