This is a short clip of a performance where I as a swimmer, am trying to set a table for tea underwater. This is part of an ongoing study of the water environment where I am trying to combine it with my other interest in Electromagnetism.
There is light a light projection of wallpaper in the pool, through which I am swimming (hence the low light levels). I am looking at the idea of boundary relating to electromagnetism and the domestic environment, and electromagnetism as light, creates a 3-D projection; this of course is limited as usual by budget.
My movements also highlight the difficulties of performing mundane and everyday tasks underwater. Buoyancy is one of the main obstacles as the body naturally floats, thus sitting on a chair at the table without being weighted is almost impossible, but great fun!!
Thanks to Chris Rowland for filming.
