On call 24/7 for the past six years, three senior citizens have made history by greeting nearly one million U.S. troops at a tiny airport in Maine. Filled with unexpected turns, their uplifting and emotional journey demonstrates the meaning of community at a time when America needs it most.

  • My Dad was a disabled WW2 Vet and very patriotic. I lost him last June to ALZ. at Togus. I am a Viet Nam Era vet . I was fortunate not to have to go over there but we didn't wear our uniforms around here unless we had to. I have the greatest admiration for the volunteers who meet all the planes to greet our guys and respect for the people who go to war for us. To all of them, "you are not forgotten". Thank You All!

My sister who lives in Maine saw the film and told me about it about a few weeks ago. Last night, June 1, 2009, the greeters were there when my dear friend's son returned from Afghanistan. She sent me an e-mail this morning to tell me he was safely home, and I told her about the movie and the greeters. She said, indeed they were there and when he called his mother from Bangor, he mentioned them. He mentioned how grateful he was and that it meant a lot to him. It also meant alot to her that they were there to welcome her son home. They are so unselfish and compassionate. Bless them.

A great film about great Americans. Our soldiers and the
greeters. My daughter was given a phone to call me from them when she came home. I will never forget them and what that call meant to me.

I am an Army wife and I constantly hear stories from soldier's about the Bangor Troop Greeters!! You comforted me while my husband left for a warzone with your warm and uplifting hugs. And you were there when he came home. You have stood by our family while watching friends leave and welcomed their return. I am so honored to have my hometown make such a difference in the lives of America's brave!!!
