DUNG SYI is the Mandarin Word for "thing". It consists of the character for "east" and the character for "west".

In this piece I use my Simultaneous Opposites engine to traverse a section of my 1982 16mm film "Dung Syi" that I'd attached one of my music tracks to.

I like the way situations appear, slowly, and take form as you watch and listen. The center frame between the two ends of the simultaneous opposites loop becomes a temporal focal point, with the length of the loop a temporal depth of field. The flow of the original images is shaken down, and the surfaces and tendencies are brought forward as subject. There is a tenuous existence to these traversals that I find calming.

TECHNICAL NOTE: Horizontal bars of video refresh lag may occur due to hardware inability to refresh single-frame videos like this one. These do not exist in the video file. If these occur on your computer, try moving the playback window lower or higher on your screen. Or, try another computer/monitor/video card. -Robert
