Deals Gap Butt Cam 12/08 - Music NSFW
Bike=GSXR 750, Camera=GoPro Hero Wide, Rider=Some guy I do NOT know. =)
Let me know what you think...be honest, I can take it. I'm wondering if it's too long/monotonous. Does it keep your attention all the way to the end?
Regarding the music: If you actually believe there is ANY song that will make everyone happy, you are delusionalz. If you have a better track in mind, that's spiffy...make your own video and we'll see how it goes. Otherwise, turn it down or rock your own Chubby Checker (Tom) if you don't like it. ;)

Of course, nice choice of music :)
Eventually I will have enough footage to mix it up and make the Voltron of Gap vids. ;)
The shadows on the hillside every once and a while was nice as well.
It may be a bit long for "laymen". I liked it and I think die-hards like me enjoy a longer vid. Gap runners always like seeing the entire road run.
The effects were nice, but artistically/continuity wise, since it is just introduce way a the end, they seem to come out of nowhere. If you are going to use effects, I think you need to introduce them earlier, even if just for a few moments. Then they make more "sense" in the film as a whole.
I like the effect as well, but agree w/ comment above on when it was introduced - video would have kept me entertained the whole time w/o it, but another video using more cuts and effects would be really cool w/ that in it.
I was trying to think of something to use that daft punk song with... Also interesting to see the tail w/ no leaves on the trees, much more light out there.
How are you liking the gopro? Have any of the same concerns w/ audio some others have?
side note - I've added some more mounting possibilities to my cars, might be able to get more views at once going on this season... :)
GoPro has been pretty neat...not perfect but not bad for $160. The audio on almost any spy type camera is typically overwhelmed by the stuff we do...they are designed to pick up on conversations covertly after all. On this run I had the waterproof seal removed, allowing more sound in, but the MIC pickup setting was set to low. Still, it overwhelmed the mic most of the time, so I'll try it with the seal installed next time, but I don't expect a lot in that area.
Eventually I plan to pick up a Canon 5DMkII and shoot a HD video similar to this one with my wide-angle lens, a little higher perspective, and a friend out front to keep it more interesting. That, to me, will be the ultimate Gap video. Stay tuned...
Anyway looking forward to the next one
The music is almost perfectly chosen!
Your idea about HD and a rider out front would be the creme de la creme.
My 2 cents - pick one rocking good song and edit the best clips to fit that time span. I agree with ^^^ , much more than a 3-4 mins or so will be too much for those who are watching it just for the WOW !! effect, as opposed to those of us who watch it for the WOW efect AND seeing the road we are familiar with.
Special Effects? Eh, whatever. To me it's more about the riding and how the chosen song "fits".
The song chosen is - to me - way more important that special effects.
Good work - as always!
More videos!!
Keep up the good work.
I cant wait to hit the gap with my POVs.
And while the video may have been long, I didn't mind. I just kinda drifted off wishing I could ride like that.
Glad ya liked it!

I personally, knowing the road and am familiar with the "riders" exploits enjoyed the film. I did like the affects but aggree with the other comments. The blur at the beginning now was a nice touch.
What did you edit the footage render the effects in? I could learn from you.
The recorder I want and mentioned above is actually a new DSLR camera by Canon that has HD recording capabilities. That would allow me to use my various pro lenses, like my 10-22mm wide angle or 28-300mm L telephoto for some great range and control of the DOF. Just check out:

...and pay special attention to the narrow focus depth in some of those shots!
My video was edited in iMovieHD with the default effects built-in to the program. I really don't have much experience with it...was just dorking around trying to learn it for now.

Little question about the GoPro. How did you fix it on the bike? With one of the 3M sticky mounts right on the careenage of the bike?
Did you find it reliable, and is it possible to remove the sticky mount later without damaging the plastics/paints ?
I'm looking forward to your next vids heh ^^
The stick-on mounts I have used quite a bit in paintball and the RC heli vids, and they have never failed, but that's not moving over 20mph either. It's 3M adhesive, so should be pretty strong, but probably need to make DAMN sure it's clean with no grease before attaching. Prep with alcohol first. Not sure about removal.
Mad props to your riding skills. Just amazing. I rode the Dragon for the first time this past Saturday (Oct. 17). It was raining, so we had to take it a bit slow. Had a blast, and can't wait to see the pics from you guys.
Stay fast and safe...
