20-21/07/2011 - A fantastic two-days holiday in the Alps near Briancon to follow the Tour de France 2011. We started from the idea of going to see the arrival of the race in Pinerolo, then this simple idea became a two days in Briancon with the camper of a friend of mine.
The first day we reached the top of Col du Montgenevre, 8 km climb to 6.1%, we met a lot of people, especially some rider of the team Rapha Continental (vimeo.com/raphafilms). The Tour here was a slight disappointment, 14 fugitives passed and then the whole group, not so spectacular!!!
The second day, instead, we take our bikes to the Col du Lautaret, then, after avoiding the blocking of the gendarmerie by pushing our bicycle up through the fields, we covered the first two km of the Galibier. We stop at 2200 m and we waited the cyclists for at least four hours, but it was worth it!!!
Andy Schleck was alone with more than 3' on Evans' group that included also Contador, the yellow jersey Voeckler, Basso, Cunego and Frank Schleck. The show was incredible, the last group of the green jersey Cavendish passed more or less 40' after Andy, in the middle all the other racer, everyone with tired faces after climbing the Col Agnel and the Izoard, this is the Tour de France guys and we were there!!!
