What is an octave?
An octave -- 8 notes -- is defined as twice the vibrating speed or half the vibrating speed of the previous note of the same name. In other words, A440 is vibrating half the speed as the note an octave above it -- A880. But it is vibrating twice the speed as the note an octave below it -- A220.
