"Rock'n'Ball" Main Titles

The movie called "Rock'n'Ball" is a story about a boy that has a huge talent for football, but is experiencing life challenges because of his broken family, lack of money and society intolerance. It's a fun and dramatic story about friendship, family, love, football, music and most important - striving and fulfilling your dreams no matter what. It was a double pleasure to work on it since my good friend filmmaker Igor Ryabchuk was a camera operator on the project.

While being not a vfx driven movie "Rock'n'Ball" had a certain amount of common vfx tasks to complete including keying, match-moving, wire and rig removal, fixing continuity issues, replacing objects for legal purposes, screen replacement, enhancing lighting in some places, stylizing footage for vintage effect and main title design. It was a pleasure to work this project together with the guys from BraindraintraiN, it was a collaborative effort that wouldn't be possible without their expertise, skills and art direction.

One task that was a big fun to do was a main title design. We were given the creative freedom to offer our vision of titles. After few concepts were in place the Director, Dmitry Prikhodko, grabbed the idea of making titles as a boy's graffiti on the wall or a fence.

And that's where things start to get interesting. Our motion designer, Vadim Revin, who gets thousands of views on his Cinema 4D and After Effects videos btw., came up with a solution that hit the spot. Some time ago, Vadim, found a picture in the net - a writing on a wall that had an interesting style. Being hungry for design and typography, he took the picture and, developed a full font on it's basis.

With a few tweaks and remaking the font for the English version we had our titles set. For the actual "Rock'n'Ball" title Vladimir Savadov-Senchenko added a bit of thickness and depth, as well as some animation.

What this proves to me that inspiration and sources for creativity surround us in all kinds of unexpected places. We have to be ready carrying a notebook or a camera in a pocket to be able to capture things so they don't slip our mind and process them when time comes.
