IN PASSING is a permanent public art installation at the new Rhode Island Department of Motor Vehicles facility. This large-scale video installation celebrates the perspectives and movements of automobile travel as well as Rhode Island's unique roadside landscapes, viewed out the side window. It feature films from around the state's over 6,000 miles of public roads, streaming past at a slowed, dreamlike pace. The artwork also allows visitors to interact by capturing "snapshots" of the passing landscape.
Commissioned by the RI State Council on the Arts 1% for Art program. To be completed in the fall of 2011.
