This is the private undertaking of a man to help restore sea turtle populations on his own. He buys eggs from fishermen at 10 rupees, about 6 or 7 cents US, and plants them in a secure caged area. Each egg gets a small sign dating it, and in the morning, after they have hatched, he transfers them to a tank to be released later in the night, avoiding the predation loop they would fall victim to if left to hatch in the wild.
The white turtle featured is a non-albino "mutant", sentenced to death in the wild due to a total lack of camouflage, and thus remains at the hatchery along with other adolecents and rescued adults which are permanently injured.
