"Fuck You, Rodie"
July 30th, 2010 greeted the crew of David Shapiro/Conjure Arts & Media's "Stealing Suburbia" with some wild, western fun. Filming in the woodsiest section of a public park in Queens, NYC, the crew was trying to recreate a back-country duel between local Washington sheriff, Officer Rodie and Malcolm Thomas-Moore, the BAREFOOT BANDIT.
Generators in the woods, producer Adi scrambling to find some internet service, the grips and camera department having a great time with some questionable mini-van car rigs to attach their less than cheap RED ONE camera set-up--at one point the skeleton crew filming on the train-tracks almost lost camera AND crew to an approaching locomotive. David went barefoot the whole day as a sign of solidarity/kinship with his film's inspiration, the recently captured Colton Harris-Moore.
It's all fun and games though on set. Remember: It's hard making movies but it is a lot of fun.
