is it me or did peoples bodies just look different back then?
  • Dan Huston plus 10 months ago
dude ....way different! Kinda creeped me out...

    HA!

No different at all... we're all brainwashed by advertising showing photoshopped people. The real human body is extremely varied and comes in all shapes and forms.

I agree with Blake, people DID look different back then.
They were slightly plump now they are morbidly obese :(

I totally agree with Ivan. Back in those days people weren't as much focused on the shape of their bodies as we're now by all the "perfect" body advertising

Ah, I've always wanted to see Muybridge's work in motion. Well done -- especially by maintaining a fluid pace.

Superbe mélange de vraies et de "fausses vieilles" images. Musique dont l'humour est dans la lignée de Hoffnung !

Very interesting. Bodies were natural back then, even muscle men were a mere shadow of what they are today (thanks to chemical enhancements). Great job!

I love the text you posted on this on our Tumblr:

“In 1874, still living in the San Francisco Bay Area, Muybridge discovered that his wife had a lover, a Major Harry Larkyns. On October 17, 1874, he sought out Larkyns; said, “Good evening, Major, my name is Muybridge and here is the answer to the letter you sent my wife”; he then killed the Major with a gunshot.”

It made me see all of these films from the point of view of a vindictive, rage-filled man. Especially the loop of the woman getting out of bed naked or the woman spinning around covering her eyes and crotch.

I found that after I finished the video, and it made me want to make another, it made me want to change it almost completely. It totally changed the way I see him as well. I think I'll revisit him/it, and name it, "My name is Muybridge."

I can really relate to that, I made a piece animating the woman descending a staircase that you use at the start. Its very hard to not just keep tinkering!
