Creative just gave us one of their new HD cameras to play with. Its small, light weight, and it shoots HD. Here is the first video I shot with it.

I'm impressed with how quickly the camera adjusted exposure when you filmed out the window. Are you going to be sharing a mini review of the camera? It looks pretty good so far.

Casey's ability to maintain character is outstanding.

It's not an act. I effing wish it was, though.

I want to buy a compact HD cam for B-roll and I'm glad you put this up. Now me confused though...
I'm thinking yes to Mino Flip HD, no to Kodak, maybe to Aiptek (though I'm on a MAC and seems just for PC - PCs are so GHetto!) and now this Vado thrown in the mix- someone want to compare and contrast?
  • Blake Whitman staff 11 months ago
well, this codec doesn't work natively with Quicktime, which is really dumb. Work fine in VLC though. Haven't played around with it much. Going to more soon.
  • Matt staff 11 months ago
I have the Flip Mino HD, as far a B-roll goes, as long as your outside, you're happy :)

If you are having trouble with the codecs just install Perian. Is a free add-on for quicktime!

Videos are AVIs (not really mac friendly :-[ )

Does Casey headbutt most new things he sees? If so, maybe there should be a warning poster on the entrance to Vimeo HQ: "Beware of the Pugh"!

I wish I could upload my AVCHD clips right from my HF100. Hey, the Vado HD doesn't have an SDHC slot? Oh well.
  • Blake Whitman staff 11 months ago
Vado has an HDMI out though, which is pretty sweet.
  • charliesteadman 11 months ago
A HDMI port is definitely nice to have on a portable device. You should try connecting the HDMI cable into a HDMI to DVI converter and plug that into a widescreen flat panel PC monitor with a DVI port. You'll have no audio but that's how I watch HDTV when my projector breaks.

So I found that this über-nerd (I say that with love and commraderie) did this comparison test: Flip Mino HD vs Creative Vado vs Kodak and he (pushed the glasses up his nose) said Creative was the winner. Whatever, thing is the Flip Mino HD may not be the best BUT as a devise it just looks cooler, it's PIMP, it's got game - it's got what we Designers call GESTALT.

Anyway, here's his review if you care...

I use the Flip Mino HD - and you I've taken all but 1 of my videos that I have here on vimeo with it. Here is my link: vimeo.com/vinod1978/videos - I'm planning on a big upgrade soon, can't decide between the Canon XH A1 and the JVC GY-HM100U.
