1964 De Es was considered to be a member of the VIENNESE SCHOOL OF PHANTASTIC REALISM. He had learned the OLD MASTERS PAINTING TECHNIQUE from Ernst Fuchs. Soon he simplyfied it and explored meta-physical and futuristic world views, with the intent to arrive at the formulation of fundamental images which could illuminate the human condition.
This first period ended 1972, when he painted the first STONE PAINTINGS ( STONEMAN)
