Oh, c'mon. How can someone travel South America and fail to visit Brazil? You have to come!!! We have awesome places for you to visit! And people here are usually very nice and helpful with tourists. :D
Brazil is not the safest place, I know, but honestly, everytime I hear something about Brazil on foreign media, it sounds much worst than it actually is. The same precautions you would have to take while visiting Brazil, you'll use for sure while visiting any other place in South America. You have to be careful, of course, but you don't need to get all paranoid. The best thing for you to do is to follow to the instructions your hosts give you. I could host you! :)

you know, it is not that i would be traveling though all southamerica, on the plan i had i only would visit argentinia and peru (and panama, but it is not realy south america i guess ;)), because the problem is that i can only do a limited number of flight stops on my worls trip. i want to buy a "round the world" ticket for the flights, and it doesn't allow more than 20 stops, that makes things difficult.
but hey, i will check out in the next days how it is possible to get brazil into my plan somehow :) in particular sao paolo ;) thank you!!!

Yes as part of my year long haul...had to be the best time I have ever spent on this planet......seriously look in to it, it's like india but india done by sweeden, they can cook and the himilayas are beyond belief, you can see that the whole of the world came from there...move heaven and earth to get there because heaven and the earth will move you when your there
