2. Canon 5d mkII Moire & rolling shutter
Pitfalls to be aware of when using this camera include moire and rolling shutter, the latter caused by winds buffeting the camera (tripod mounted).

I hope the camera industrie will soon adapt existing global shutter cmos technology. I have a HV20 and in some situatin the image is unusable because of rolling shutter arefacts. Also the aliasing of the 5Dmk2 has preventet me to buy one.

Hi X-man, actually the camera performs beautifully in most situations, and overall I love it. But it has a number of issues (moire, rolling shutter, aliasing, flicker in 50hz countries, no 24/25p, limited manual control, and so on) that prevent it from being a professional solution in many situations.

That said, as a still camera it's fantastic and many of the video limitations can be overcome - it's just important to be aware of them.

In looking over all the frightening clips here on the infamous rolling shutter misery, I have decided to stay the heck away from CMOS or 3-MOS or any other sort of CMOS cameras. And stick with the good old 3-chip CCD Coupled Charged Sensor cameras. No shutter FX with those.

that isn't rolling shutter it is a windy day and you camera and you are shooting with a tight lens. the Park rangers face is a little out of focus also.

This is clearly rolling shutter. Yes there is wind buffeting the camera, but it is not causing uniform shifts to the image, its causing a jello-ish ripple distortion which is the rolling shutter artifact.

i had this problem while testing the camera, it could be the bayonet of between the lens and body shifting. The wind blowing adding to this problem. there are ways to overcome this

I gotta tell you, I mounted the 5DMKII on my crop dusting helicopter and flew at 80mph, and I didn't see anything of the sort. I'll post it soon for viewing. I own the Canon XHA1 and was trying to overcome the problem of shake (caused by the Image stab. lens design) and the 5DMKII worked wonders for me! I also mounted it on an Ag Cat Bi-plane crop duster and the footage is outstanding!

why didn't they just use global shutters in the first place, exposing all pixels to light simultaneously instead of from top to bottom, that's just asking for trouble!

Come on Nikon let's have a full frame DSLR with a CMOS sensor that uses a global shutter, records in true 24p and is able to spit out 1080 to an external monitor whilst recording please thankyou!! Do that and I'll buy 2
