There are some serious issues for drivers and pedestrians in Adams Morgan, where traffic is temporarily being diverted down to one lane in each direction, but drivers are not clear about which lane they should be driving in. Adding to the confusion (and danger) is a traffic light covered by a burlap sack.
I called 311 (police non-emergency) twice, was transferred to 911 during one call, but the dispatcher got me off the phone quickly. I saw several police cars drive quickly through the intersection (like most of the cars, the police cruisers also failed to slow down while driving through the pedestrian walkway during the walk cycle.) One other pedestrian and I were amazed to see a Metro bus barreling down on us while we were crossing WITH the walk signal (vehicles have no clear stop signal during that time.)
This is a very busy and VERY dangerous intersection. I am concerned that someone will be hurt. Something needs to be done to protect drivers and ESPECIALLY pedestrians.
