In this test I used SimpleSrc. To avoid the result become a no detail fire ball at begin, I set some turbulence and added an animation key to make sure it only affect the first few moments. I don’t want turbulence be effect all the way. I did the same setting with time scale. A height Timescale seems can increase detail (I don’t know if they are true)
I also used ParticleSrc to test. I hope this technic can fix the problem, ParticleSrc was always look like spheres.
