Our Place was formed by the alliance of the Upper Room and Open Door, two organizations providing services in downtown Victoria for the disadvantaged. The Upper Room Society began as a soup kitchen in 1967 and later added transitional housing for men. The Open Door had its start as a Drop-In Centre in 1986. Each facing their own unique challenges, the two organizations developed a plan to merge. Together, they built a new facility, what is today called 'The Our Place Society'.
