Tired, frantic and suffering a terrible migraine, a lone driver picks up a random hitchhiker, only to learn that his passenger is not only more than seems, but holds knowledge to a terrible past event.
Filmed in 2003, a hard drive failure killed all edited versions of this short film. Annoyed and frustrated, I moved on.
Flash forward to summer of 2011, when I found a DVD in an old box with my last cut of the film. It may be imperfect (it's from a low quality dvd rip) but it's still cool and so, into Adobe CS5 Premiere Pro it went for audio cleanup, some trimming AND...
...two pieces of music by Moby. They are "Stock Radio" and "Sighted." I am amazed at how much atmosphere the music provides. They make this little short film complete.
I am grateful to Moby for this program and send out my most heartfelt thanks.
DEATH is written & directed by Matt Stevens.
Starring Stephen Ellison and a gentleman who's name I no longer remember. I wish I could find him! Hence he is credited as 'Unknown.'
Shot on a Sony DCR-TRV50 MiniDV Digital Camcorder, normally using a wide angle lens adaptor.
My friend Charles Pennington did the initial edit on Final Cut Express years ago. This version has a number of tweaks, trims and rearrangements made by yours truly in Premiere Pro.
PLEASE REMEMBER that this video quality cannot in any way compare to what is on the actual MiniDV tapes. The DVD was 480i, with a low bit-rate. In addition, Premiere Pro had difficulty with the interlacing. This is why I added a great deal of fake 'grain.'
Hopefully I can find use of a MiniDV camcorder or deck so that I can recapture the MiniDV footage and do a high quality edit, using this version as a guide.
