Sikh Coalition Diversity Competition Video
Lyrics:
Back in the day
Everyone was treated the same
It was easy.
We use to live together
White, black, brown
No one would frown or look down on you
I wish we could just go back to the days
Where you saw me as me
The same as you
But everything changes…
See then it all changed
The rules of this game
‘cept it wasn’t a game
All it caused him was pain
Didn’t have no fame
All the kids called him lame
Terrorist, raghead, and all these other names
Couldn’t constrain the pain
He racked his brain
But he couldn’t find a way
To restrain the inhumane
Affliction, It was his conviction
That his prayers were in vain
Was he the one to blame?
He was born as a Sikh
And his mind was quick
But they pushed him around
He was knocked to the ground
Again and again
So I picked up this pen
So I could teach him lesson
To avoid this oppression
He was stepped on, picked on, pushed around without a sound
called him names, wouldn't let him play their games
All the taunts just made him go insane
Cut your hair, shave your beard, hey why don't you look the same
He was shunned at school
They called him uncool
They stole his books
They insulted his looks
Shoved him into lockers
Cause he didn't have the power
To do anything but cower
In fear
Every day we struggle to survive
We scream but no one hears our cries
I thought in the USA we’d be free
Or was that just me?
Please hear my plea.
Mentally and physically
Intrinsically, metaphysically.
It hurts.
So let’s stop all the violence
Speak in future tense
Comprehension is prevention
No need for apprehension
Protection is your own invention
Always stick to the system
See bullies, they don’t have any real courage in ‘em
Stick with a friend and I’m sure it'll endp
Tell them to stop it, and if they don’t drop it
Just walk from it
You need to stay cool
No need to stoop
To their level, just keep a level head
Talk to a parent, a teacher, maybe a friend.
But the most important thing you got to remember, is,
You’re intelligent and elegant
Beauty is irrelevant.
No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.
Thanks Eleanor, that helps I’m sure
No one’s superior, no one’s impure
Now don’t you walk through that door
To self-pity and war
With yourself
You don't have to suffer anymore
there are ways to make it better
Just be yourself, whether
You believe it or not
There are better ways than
Using violence or using silence
Just give it a chance
You’re not dreaming
This ain’t no inception
Just use these directions
See bullying's just an infection
And here's the cure
So go out and spread it
And don't let anyone tell you
That you aren't perfect.
