Mulatto (Portuguese or Spanish mulato), "person of mixed race", is a person who has both black and white ancestry. This word it also means "small mule", and was also used during slave times to define a person of mixed heritage. Terms such as "biracial" are preferred. Its cognates in other languages are not necessarily offensive
