gyroscopic flop... on a no-jive
at ser (and several times in the past), jack ringca and i discussed the theoretical impossibility of a legit gyroscopic flop on a fixed wooden axle yo-yo (although he found a pretty good approximation of one using a wooden butterfly in the seminal work "fixed axle fun unlimited"). jack's a great wood player, and i've probably learned as much about it from sessions and talks with him as from anyone.
i've kind of played around with it a little over the last year, but it wasn't until yesterday that it really started to click for me. like all my no-jive stuff, it's just a little thing, but i was pretty happy about it. i love flops, and this is as good a one as i think i'm likely to find on a no jive.
