Shot with a Nikkor 50mm f1.4D, some color correction. Everything handheld.

this video has finally settled the argument between a friend an I about the D90's lowlight ability. This has finally convinced him to shoot our next film on the D90 (when we get the camera...and money)
thanks again!
dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=152567
how can this be low light? there are over exposed areas in this, therefore, it must have been lit in some way, and considering that the shadows are very visable it must have been a reasonably bright light....
now don't get me wrong i am a d90 user and i love it... but i think people need to understand that lighting a scene is very important, and that is does not mean having to spend hundreds on equipment...
any light will light a scene.
do not think you can just switch a camera on and press record... everything has to be setup...
I should have title this D90+ ambient light, its more to show that you can achieve a pretty noise free footage with just ambient light... sure if you plan to shoot something important its better to set some kind of light, but if I go to some public places at night, I know the D90 when set correctly can produce some nice footage.
and and and.. if i may, ask, what are your render output settings? cause your d90 videos are quite phenomenal.
I used this method in premiere CS3 for rendering my videos;
eugenia.gnomefiles.org/images/pcs3-h264.jpg
Like I said, its more noise free footage with ambient light.
I like everything in it!! specially the low noise!
i will look at the link you gave for Mattias and I hope it will work for me. Thanks again. By the way, is it worth to buy the Nikkor 50mm f1.4D??
I think its worth it, especially if you shoot in ambient light and for achieving nice DOF.
Best regards from Sweden!
Thanks!
Here's the technique I used; I put the strap around my neck and then I pushed firmly away with the strap providing tension. that give me better control over the camera and the wobble.
The song is "Woman" by John Lennon.
You mean Camera control pro the software? if so, its an easy way with the software to change all the control of the D90 without going thru all the menus... thats all.
Une si petite caméra, une si grande qualité... Mais en effet tu as aussi des beautés qui ne nuisent pas à l'image non plus... hi! hi! Elles sont faites pour la caméra. ;o) Lâche pas, brother.
Ta tite soeur.
You are a great artist man. This video is so beutiful. All is excelent, the light, the childs and the Lennon music
GREAT JOB
Did you use "camera control 2" to change the settings in your camera like Car3o suggested in your dvxuser link?
Or did you adjust only the in Camera menus?
I used "Camera Control Pro 2" maybe twice... to try it. its faster to set the camera but on the field I use the camera menus.
Next stop will be the 50 1,4
Thanks!

Hope you'll like the D90 as much as I do, looking forward to see some footages of yours. :)
Like many others, my decision to buy a D90 was made much easier by seeing your video work. Thank You.
I have a question. You mentioned that you cannot focus while on the steadicam without an electronic focusing device. Did you use such a device in this video?
I have purchased the u-Flycam, but having trouble with focus.
Thanks,
James
For this video I didn't use a steadicam, only handheld. without an electronic device its impossible to adjust focus. I just pre-focus before shooting or infinity focus if I'm far enough.
kenrockwell.com - and its brilliant information for all, everything you could think of I guess answered.
Many thanks Keith.
I really want to buy a d-90 but I'm still afraid it might not work as I expect. Can you tell me for how long do you shoot with it? like 30 minutes, maybe more? What are the downsides?

sorry if ma english is Baddddddddddd...... hahaha... i'll try to make it better. :)
what is the music?
How come you don't get any jellyish motion while paning?(of course you're not paning very fast but you still do some paning from one kid to the other).
Maybe slow paning is not that big of an issue... am i right?? or did you do something else to avoid the jelly monster?
If you handle the D90 very carefully then you shouldn't have any issues with the jelly monster :) I rarely had problems with it.
