"This is a new CEO putting his stamp on the company," says Deborah Farrington, the founder and co-chairman of StarVest Partners LP, referring to moves made late Thursday, Aug. 18, by Hewlett-Packard Co. CEO Léo Apotheker, which include seeking options for HP's PC business, discontinuing mobile-device development and acquiring U.K.-based data analytics provider Autonomy Corp. plc. The former CEO of business software developer SAP AG, Apotheker took the helm at HP last September. "He's clearly saying software and services are the wave of the future for HP," says Farrington, whose late-stage venture capital firm counts NetSuite Inc. and iCrossing Inc. among its big hits. - Mary Kathleen Flynn
