The punchline that would follow this sequence is that "Bob" has forgotten "our anniversary."
The spot was intended to advertise a casino's tenth year of operation, and I auditioned for both Bob the client, and Sal the dealer. I read the two characters in separate video clips, fully expecting to submit the audition in those two pieces with someone offscreen reading the cue lines in each case.
It was my videographer, Sean Parker (also the co-writer and director of the first feature I ever acted in, a year before, "Coup de Cinema"), who decided to try intercutting the two clips into one sequence, so that it ended up looking as if I were acting opposite myself.
For not being planned in advance, the result is not bad -- a tribute to Sean's editing skills as well as whatever I brought to the table.
