Hellman, Professor Emeritus of Electrical Engineering, Stanford University, indicates that a child born today has at least a 10% chance of not living out his or her natural life as a result of our dependence on nuclear weapons. A response is required that fits well with humanism’s affirmation of “our ability and responsibility to lead ethical lives of personal fulfillment that aspire to the greater good of humanity.” Prof. Hellman will propose a novel approach to solving this problem that depends critically on individual initiative.
