Shooting with a Panasonic HVX200 through a Hasselblad 500 and Zeiss 80mm 1:2.8 (the grid lines are on the focusing screen).

Verdict: it kinda works. The lens shade on the HVX fits well over the 500 body so you can balance it upright at 90 degrees pretty decently. The problem is that the optimum distance is actually a couple inches up, which also helps keep the frame illuminated evenly edge to edge. The solution would involve having another tripod to mount the HVX on upright, with a baffle between it and the top of the Hasselblad (which would need a clear focusing screen).

I'm not sure it's worth it, I still think a 35mm adapter and 50mm 1:1.4 would be 10 times better. Also the Hasselblad lens could be adapted to the adapter without much trouble.

That is a super cool outcome! It's hard for me to differentiate which qualities are a result of the high end DV cam or the addition of the Hblad lens. Either way it's pretty cool, and I don't have access to either!

I like when you can see the sides of the viewing screen. one move would be to make a mask and then apply it to any of your footage.

how cool! i treat my 501 (which doesn't have grid lines, strangely) like my firstborn child and i'd like to do something along these lines with it.

You're right! Just get a 35mm adapter and some Nikon lenses and everything will be fine.
