After getting home shortly after midnight last night.... there was only another inch or two to shovel. The night was clear and the moon full.... what next?

Of course... grab the camera, take some pictures and make a Photo Story...

One problem with Photo Story.... it's too easy to quickly make something 'almost good'. My daughter called yesterday and asked me to send a couple pictures of our snow.

From there it becomes a story... and then a story grows into something more than a few snapshots. It gets a life of its own and wants to become more interesting and tell '.... a story...' and goes beyond sending a couple snapshots.

    We enjoy the process.

I always enjoy the unexpected project, they seem to be the ones we treasure the most. It's exciting when something done quickly comes together so well as yours has.I thought it was a great story with beautiful pictures of a winter night.I also liked the music , who was the performer ? It complimented the scenes in your story very nicely.

Thanks Jim... as YouTube just informed me in an e-mail "...The audio content identified in your video is Treasure Of Love by Clyde McPhatter & The Drifters. We regret to inform you that your video has been blocked from playback due to a music rights issue...."

YouTube went on to offer lots of other music to swap the audio track out with. I'll pick one and try that process, and use it for the copy on vimeo also.

You Tube's audio swapping feature is interesting... this is Vivaldi's Four Seasons 'Winter'. I'd have guessed it's as copyrighted as Treasure of Love, but I'll take YouTube's word for it. Does that make me free to to rip it off my video on YouTube and use it in other places like vimeo? Probably not.

    Splendid night photography John!
    What camera was used here?
Any special trick you want to reveal?

Hi John... nothing special. A tripod with a Nikon D40x set to night mode and automatic, using the basic 18-55mm lens.

I forgot to take the moon... and we have a new 55-200 mm lens for closeups... I'll do that tonight if it's in view, and get closer up shots of some stars. For now I'm back to shoveling.

I think snow scenes look better in moonlight than sunlight.

PapaJohn, I'm thinking Arizona, Hawaii, or the Caribbean and you keep bringing me back to reality with all these great images and talk of shovelling 30cm of that white stuff in my driveway.

Keep thinking!!! We're at the mid-point of winter. It's all 'uphill' from here... or should I think of it as 'downhill'.

As pretty as the snow looks. All I can think of this is living in the freezer. I don't think I can survive living in the freezer.

Hi Ren Yen.... I'm too cold to respond.

'Uphill', 'downhill' either way I can't wait to park the snow blower for the season.

Same thing here just across the border from you.

Temperature last night approached 0 Deg Kelvin, even our Husky is complaining. And Ren Yen, he doesn't like living in the refrigerator either.

  • PapaJohn plus 11 months ago
Hi fishy... as deep as it is this year, in my 30 years in Kalamazoo I've never seen snowstorms as harsh or deep as those I remember from my 23 years in Manhattan or 15 years in Connecticut.
