Oh So Beautiful: An Urban Indie Showcase, designed to put the power of performance back into to the hands of the musicians in honour of the late great prolific soul singer Curtis Mayfield. Mayfield was one of the first Black performers to take control of his own music by setting up his own record label, publishing company and production team to ensure ownership of his songs. Today too many musicians have been shortchanged by promoters just to get on stage and perform; however, this time musicians are running the show. For our hard work and talent, we musicians should always be compensated, no matter how small the reward, and we should never have to pay to bare our souls and share our gifts. Oh So Beautiful has created a platform where the musicians are each other’s promoters and work together, not in competition, to create greater opportunities for ourselves because no one is just going to hand us success.
All levels of the music industry must recognize
that what we have as musicians is...
