This is fantastic! Artists have been using jitter lately for motions like this but the VCR makes the medium so much more visceral. I'd like to see some video effects put on the footage too? Whats the sound distortion coming from?

the simple answer is: Im pulling the tension on the tape alot harder than vcr's normally have, that added pressure of the tape against the audio heads amplify and distort the audio track on the tape.

but there are quite a few more things involved as well.

I don't really use video effects. I don't have any TO USE. all I have are boxes and boxes of vcr's! ha ha. I generally like to keep things simple, keep them as they are, it feels more tangible and natural to me then. there's a few more things involved here too.
