1. C&P Letterpress: 2 color job
A quick glimpse behind the scenes at Armato Design & Press. This shows part of the process of letterpress printing a custom designed wedding invitation. It is a 2-color design printed using photopolymer plates on a 108-year-old Chandler and Price old style letterpress.

here i was looking at your etsy shop, wondering what exactly letterpress was, the process, what it looked like .. and here I found your video, providing all the answers .. just gorgeous, the machine itself, the movement, the beautiful textural end result, your designs .. wow, i'm in love!

I still don't understand how the impression is made. Can you explain a little further?
  • Armato Design 2 years ago
Letterpress is a relief-printing process. The areas of the printing plate that carry the ink (the text, for example) are raised surfaces. The plate is then pressed into the paper with hundreds of pounds of pressure leaving the printed areas recessed into the paper.

Right, I was actually curious about the plate itself, because I have only seen metal sorts, but I found some information online regarding the photopolymer plates. Thanks!

This little video (printing the wedding invitation) is great. I'd like to speak with you about using it in my typography class to show students how modern and old work together. Would you grant me permission? Thanks for sharing with us.
