This video introduces you to the latest global project to emerge from the Hill Museum & Manuscript Library at St. John's Abbey and University in Collegeville, Minnesota — the first illuminated, handwritten Bible since the invention of the printing press.
For our program, "Preserving Words and Worlds" (speakingoffaith.org/programs/2009/preserving-words), Krista Tippett interviewed Fr. Columba Stewart in the museum space of the Hill Library, surrounded by the lush colors and lavish script of the St. John's Bible Project. This first illustrated Bible in modern times is being spearheaded by the foremost Western calligrapher and Queen Elizabeth's scribe, Donald Jackson.

Abby Chapple 11 months agoThere are not enough words to appreciate the meaning of manuscripts, their words and their creation. Words are our souls made visual so meaning can be carried by the four winds to rest in the crevises of life ....proving that the joy and tears of faith will go on forever. Thank you for preserving on film how one of the masters - Donald Jackson - manifests this art.
