1. Singaporeans arrested for protest in support of Bu…

Two Singapore activists, Seelan Palay and Chong Kai Xiong were arrested by the police for protesting against the denial of work permits to Burmese nationals who had taken part in protests in Singapore against the military regime in Burma.

Donch worry, Apathy! We now got stomp.com.sg and razorTV mah, so the world can shut up good. Besides, some monk from that BH Temple came to me in a dream to say that I may die soon but LKY can live forever one.
Joy to the world/the greatest leader has come/so let's receive our king.

My two cents.. The Suhaimi Yusof (actor in the Police And Thief comedy) lookalike don't quite gel with Jim Morrison's voice...But otherwise another gem for our historical record.

Btw, The Human Rights Watch in NY called on Singapore leaders to "end the practice of using defamation suits to stifle political opposition". Singapore’s Govt responded by saying "opposition politicians have the right to criticize the Govt but that does not entitle them to tell lies or defame".
Quite uniquely, then, only Singapore’s opposition leaders are fond of telling lies since we don’t hear much of other countries’ opposition leaders being sued.
Simple logic? But no one else in Singapore uttered or thought of this. Ain't we braindead or what? Actually, a pal said Singaporeans are numb to injustice. Oooh, justice is all about 'inherent tendency', haven't you heard?

All they freaking did was hold a placard. How IS that a crime? What exactly do we deem a 'protest'? Was there any charges against them?
  •
  • X' Ho 10 months ago
Reply to Esha, The charge could well be "inherent tendency" to revolt, to cause nuisance, to disrupt public peace, to undermine authority, to rally a gathering of numbers..... surely you don't need me to go on. Now, shiver me timbers (despite the ST telling you there is no climate of fear).

Wah, so quiet here. Am surprised by the lack of pro-Govt voice around here (unlike the spats over at the SG Politics video on LKY on YouTube). You know I always lurve to hear them and THEIR rants. Then again, maybe am not all that surprised either. Wrong platform for them ya?

  • X' Ho 10 months ago
...but how would Govt. supporters know where to voice opinions? Well, wink-wink, now you know! (Check with grassroots leaders in hushed tone if seriously in doubt.)

well whoever view such videos, hope you enjoy it... cos very soon i will be out of job as govt is likely to enact a law to prevent busy bodies and media sluts from giving "publicity" to those civil disobedience terrorist :P

Aiyah ChoonHiong, surely Singapore's web-hosts aren't your only oyster in the world of Internet (and next time dun have to put real name ok!). Someone had left the comment that SGPolitics would be jailed for posting the LKY video on YouTube (we sheep would tend to agree). But the video has been up for 20 months now and it ISN'T shut down. And it's gotten over a hundred thousand hits. Why do u think the need for razorTV on the Net? Never underestimate the power of distraction in Singapore esp. to those who treat ST like the Bible. Repeat after me - ST is the Bible, ST is the Bible...Ahhh, beautiful Singapore! I lurve it, lurve it, lurve it!

How benevolent and assured of Singapore not to ban Clint Eastwood's The Changeling. The film tells of a real-life corrupt constabulary in America where, despite the rampant power-abuse, independently-run public-service radio and organized public protest still thrived. Did Singapore's national-press The Straits Times (ST) draw dire comparisons of that scenario to our admittedly authoritarian State? Well, no worries then, Singaporeans can't possibly know how to connect the dots... even in their heads (not kidding!). Benevolent and assured, nonetheless (hmmph!).

Oh, please don't think, for a minute, that I've coveted and dominated this site with any verbal diarrhoea. I haven't. There, I've said it. I've learned from the ST - say and it shall be so! (And please don't think, I'm committing one-upmanship of picking up sand from the floor, hor!)

Since I'm at it... There was a time when Katy Perry's I Kissed A Girl would've been restricted on the radio or even banned in Singapore. Now, can we not say that the song is promoting (token) lesbianism? Oh, sex between women is NOT a crime in Singapore under section 377A, I see! Am I being too shamelessly unrestrained in all this outpouring here? Did you say shameless? Did you really?

Oh, lest you think I'm helping those State dissidents... I'm actually here to advance my own literary ambition. Plse check xhosux. com to read my monthly X'Ho-Files essay which will also be archived on myspace.com/xhobooks under blogs there from Jan 2009 onwards. (ST taught me never to use the word long-winded on oneself.)

I'm really disappointed. Not a single pro-Govt voice here. So much so that I now have to quote a comment from a YouTube source (fr a new Chee SJ vid) to show fellas what I'm expecting. Here goes:
"Hey i'm a singaporean working in new york city for a year. singapore is still the perfect society to live in... probably in the world. please leave it as it has always been... everywhere we go, there's definitely some sort of control, if not people will run riot... as for the poverty thing.. we are no way close to even comparable with other first world countries.. their situation are worst."
Get the picture? Otherwise, how can we profess to have a 'balanced view' when there isn't two sides to the argument (the ST way), ya? C'mon, all you grassroots-interns, shout it out loud, if just for internal record to score brownie-points!

jeeze was thinking of your replies yearning for pro-govt voice here... and actually wanted to paste the link of Dr Chee video to u... u beat me to it

anyway lets go over there... more entertaining

The video there is interesting but the comments are exactly how Big Brother wants it - an inane, petty-sounding verbal-exchange. Eh, that's like me doing a one-man show here, echoing Big Brother? That's the whole point and fun! As long as I DOMINATE. Otherwise, what's the point? Be sensible? I may as well read a book than waste my time arguing with Singaporeans.

Really? You'd call it 'performance art'? Is that what you think I've done here? Why, thank you, thank you. No, of course I don't expect the media to acknowledge and praise me for it. I'm sure they know which side their bread is buttered. Besides, why would I hanker for the praise of a little country when I can have almost all of this website to myself! And there was no need for me to even legally register, unlike at Speakers' Cornered. But hold your applause please, we don't want to incur the ire of Big Brother's henchmen! They got REAL powers, you know.

Is this way too much? Is this a case of not knowing when to stop? My daily supply on the doormat tells me this is not too much. What I'm doing here ain't nothin compared to... ????
(Clue: only 90 cents and it's not pulp-fiction - No, love, not 80 cents anymore. Yes, it has a surreptitious way of creeping into your consciousness. Surreptitious and it's 90 cents everyday. Imagine what you'd get if it's free? Cheaper COEs? Another renamed Progress Package? Sorry, you don't have the answers, they do!)

I found one very accurate comment on that Chee video-space on YouTube. It says:
"Chee should decide if he wants to be humanitarian or leader. To be leader, he should only have one thing in his mind - defeat opponent, regardless of ways n conscience (politics is rightfully dirty). Yes, he doesn't even need to win over the people esp since they're a cowering lot. Otherwise, he can't lead. It's a simple fact of the art of war."
Methinks the writer is not trying to start a debate but is really reminding Chee of something he might have forgotten. At present, Chee does come across more of a humanitarian (like he should start his own Amnesty S'pore cos that's where he seems to be languishing now). It's one thing to try and convince the people... but how to win 'democratically' when democracy, like he says, is a farce? And, if I may add, all the civic organizations & debates are nothing but wayang-wayang to silence critics. A wise leader should know how to play dirty but make it look justifiably clean. Cos winning, very simply, defines a leader. (Though for longevity at the top, you'd have to look to our royal Harry.)

Gosh, it's been a month since my last. And lightning has struck, while good CEOs always CHOOSE to go, unlike shameless dictators! Ahh...I almost feel like the Govt around here. Almost all of my say on this page and no one else's. In that respect, I should at least appear even more like their venerated voice and announce - c'mon, have your say and post comment, you have the right!!!! Lord knows, it's not just rhetorical, lest Netizens feel soooo left out of my nation-, I mean comment-building process.

Someone asked in a blog Is God angry with Singapore? Here's what I left as comment:
Can God be angry with himself? Eh, what is and what is not a religious issue in Singapore is determined by the Govt. (not a religious institution!). So, anyone with a semblance of brain would know that Govt = God (or at least, an institution of God). God could well be angry with Singapore cos you Singaporean-fools are not obedient enough towards the Govt. these days with your poisonous blogging. Leaving Him (Govt/God) to devious measures of co-opting blogging with STOMP and BREATHE and even 'fake panning' blog-sites. It's like interest in having an Opposition in Parliament. Singaporeans want? OK, you got it! The REAL ones always get SUED or turn fugitive! Cos as REAL opposition, those ones are true threats. Well, at least we know God is not angry with the Singapore Parliament!
