The Fédération Régionale des Groupements de Promotion Féminine (FRGPF-Z) was created in 1987 and legally recognized in 2003 to promote the overall objective of social, technical, institutional, and organizational advancement of its members. FRGPF-Z’s ethnically diverse membership of 30,919 members is grouped within 1,274 GPF affiliates throughout the conflict-prone region of Ziguinchor, and works to promote and maintain a sustainable oyster industry while preserving the region’s many important species.
In 2008, FRGPF-Z won the UNDP Equator Prize which is awarded biennially to recognize outstanding community efforts to reduce poverty through the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity. This video was created as part of our Biodiversity for Local Livelihoods project.
