70-200 f2.8 Canon. Mainly the business end of it.

Great colors and details. You guys plan on using the video function of this camera for professional use?
  • Michaelkelly Kelly plus 1 year ago
Yup. Even with auto problems (although I just bought a nikon lens adaptor on eBay!) I think it is still WAY more impressive looking than HDV. I can see the 12 or even 24 minute limit on footage being a problem for interviews though...

I didn't know about the 12 or 24 minute limit. It's about space on the CF or camera settings?
    Great image!

it is a FAT32 issue. seemingly in the olden days, they never imagined that any file would need to exceed 4gb, so they set that as a kind of upper limit for file transfer.
    or something.
google fat32, and let the nerds explain :)
  • we had a laptop nearby- it only takes a few mins to dump the 4gb and keep shooting. if u compare this with how long it could take to change a film mag, it's pretty low and hardly effects the shoot at all.

Whoever has the mustache looks like he needs to be in the next Coen Brothers movie. Nice work. Would have loved to catch the audio. Looks like you were having fun.

Dude I totally agree with the Coen Bros comment!

Never noticed that funny dent on your lower lip before. Go HD!

Nice stuff! Clean footage, well lit. I love "boring" studio tests like this, they usually get the best facial reactions from the "actors."

can someone explain to me what the big deal is with 24p? i swear to god 30p looks basically the same to me.

i understand the shutter difference of 1/48 to 1/60, but i can not discern the difference between the two. it's like trying to tell a 1/3 stop difference in exposure, sure we all know it's there, but viewed independent of each other it's so hard to tell. i've never been to a screening of someone's film and had an average audience member whisper, "i don't think this is 24P".

and who cares anyway? who's projecting their movies on the big screen at cannes? not us. if you are, you're probably shooting film. am i right?

i think the fascination with 24p began when people couldn't get decent dof from fixed-lens video cameras and they were desperate to achieve that "film look". but now we've got the dof back in spades. this stuff looks awesome. we've come a long way baby. screw 24p. i'll shoot 30p any day if it's going to look this good!!
  • 24fps moves closer to emulating film. we should forget emulation and move forward.. i still think progressive looks way better than interlaced.

24fps = flicker. I notice this in the cinema. Do you really want to emulate film? Film has 24fps as this was the highest technology available 70 years ago !! The less fps, the more flicker, that at around 20fps and below, turns into judder.

I use the 24fps frame doubling function on my TV, ie fake 48fps - and it looks superb - smooth as silk.

If you want to achieve the 'suspension of disbelief', then use the highest fps available.

All of the 5DMK2 conversions from 30fps to 24fps that I have seen have terrible judder on pans.

  • 5dmk ii rules. i just shot a music vid with it. it might have helped if i knew how to work it properly but jaysus it's great to work with those lenses and that colour range..

I just shot a short with it last week, and learned loads. I have been putting Nikon lenses on it, so that you can control the aparature (Nikon lenses have ap control on the lens), but the ISO seems to be anyones guess. It's a beauty though!
