Dude - I got so exdited when I saw this in my inbox!! The memories it brings back - front ensemble - throwing that rifle around - I think I want to go buy one to play with again!! Ha!

Fantastic to watch - editing, the energy, shots, color, music - wonderful!!! can't go wrong with the Scouts!

    Bravo!

thank you! as you know so well... music & the arts programs are vital to every child's education. these kids go through incredible tests to be a part of these groups, first auditioning and then working long hours through summer, then sustaining that activity around part time jobs and school every day. their autumn half time field shows are not just a visual and musical spectacle, but a pageant, a sport, a lifestyle. i celebrate them all - students and instructors - for their dedication particularly now that the economy has crashed and more programs are destined to be pulled left and right around the nation. as a teenager in a very difficult foster home, these programs saved my life.

hey, go order a rifle. just make sure you tape it really good so you don't break it in the first week. ;) you could go up to chicago and march with the guys there. i think they'll be back in s.d. for the pride festival in july. you could come be in this year's film. heheh

Ha the Scouts! I remember hearing this exact performance on CD some years ago.

It's good to see some footage of bands like this... and with such high energy and quick cuts, it's a very tasteful way to mask the music. I think this makes it much more cohesive.

Your cuts between shots are dead on with the music and that makes for a great effect. Good job!
  • evanoah sea☆ 11 months ago
tim thank you for an awesome comment. i'm glad you enjoyed it. here's hoping madison makes a big comeback to the top 10 this year!

    Yeeee haaaawwwww!
  • evanoah sea☆ 11 months ago
love to~ and would love to go to bands of america - grand nationals in the autumn! it's very cool to watch via DCI.org live streaming, but would be so much better in person!
  • Tim O'Bryan plus 11 months ago
My friend Bryan is an amazing percussionist and whenever we hear any DCI, we get placed into an unstoppable mood. We've been (not) seriously talking about trying to visit the DCI nationals one of these summers. That would be an awesome experience!

One of my co-workers in my office actually spent a summer or two with The Cadets playing euphonium. Such a small world!

And wow, BOA... that brings back some memories. I'm a BOA alumni '02! I wasn't at the grand nationals, just the summer program.
  • evanoah sea☆ 11 months ago
congrats boa alumni! that's awesome tim.

as i mentioned - madison was my inspiration for this. i had intended to use malaguena at first, however when i bought the '96 show i fell in love with the opener (abuelos) instead. so i listened to it a couple of days while i combed through two hours of footage. long parade. anyway, malaguena was my inspiration: youtube.com/watch?v=F7tW-KPplMs&feature=channel_page

always so much to enjoy at boa and dci! i bet you make it to an event soon... you have "the condition" as we call it. lol. peace!

Great video, you brought me closer to the "parade" event.
    I love the word "Pasadena".
  • evanoah sea☆ 11 months ago
ojo thanks very much! pasadena means "crown of the valley" and it is a gorgeous spot nestled in the rolling hills/mountains.

another alumni! brilliant! should have known!! amazing how many of us have a musical past. i still fully intend to make an album or two of my own electronic stuff in the coming two or three years. in time my videos will switch to primarily focusing on my own music.

    love youuuuu HUGE!

You've done a fantastic job with this. Honestly I'm not that big on marching bands, but your presentation here is making me rethink that. Bravo!
  • evanoah sea☆ 11 months ago
it's such a challenge to take something that is not popular in all circles and keep it alive and fresh. this is all still so new to me in many regards, so i just go with my gut. i know you know what i mean. ;) thankfully others seem to enjoy it as well. i always appreciate hearing from you.

I love this to death. But I don't think it matched your pride '08 video; That work of art is still etched in my mind. =D
  • evanoah sea☆ 11 months ago
haha it's for the kids paul, (have to keep it clean). lol. thank you very much for your note and support friend.
  • Paul Davis plus 11 months ago
HAHA...I understand. I have two of my own.

But that pride day video and editing is fantastic. I'm surprised it didn't get more "likes".

Look forward to more of your work. =D
  • evanoah sea☆ 11 months ago
=) as a total newbie, i first joined vimeo in march 08. over the next six months, by some stroke of luck, several of my videos took off and did really well. however when i left vimeo in august for a two month break i deleted my account. as a result it erased all my previous stats of course. .. and when i opened a new account - i brought back most of my work, and everything was reset to zero. so, nothing is accurate in that regard.
and i don't remember exactly what response that particular video had... but do know that it had found a home. ;)

    thank youuuuuu
  • Paul Davis plus 11 months ago

Beautifully shot. I really loved the colours - did you do anything to them? Looks absolutely festive. You always do gorgeous stuff :D Loved it!
  • evanoah sea☆ 11 months ago
thank you lydia! contrast & saturation levels were adjusted. it was the most amazing experience at a parade i've ever had. the crowd roared at certain points like we were at an olympic event. such great excitement, so much HOPE in the air for a brighter day. warm embrace to you.

What a fantastic piece! The kinetic energy of the cutting, especially so! And thanks for joining the Marching Bands group, we could use a boost of energy there. ;) Sorry I took so long to check this one out! A great approach to what, as you and others pointed out, is often a very conventionally shot (and edited) subject.

Looking forward to learning from you and your videos.
  • evanoah sea☆ 10 months ago
well thank you for such a kind comment, i'm glad you enjoyed it and appreciate your note. warm regards

Parades are parades! But this one is imbued with superb cutting and timing, indeed, your work is pleasure to view.

    I watch and I learn!
  • evanoah sea☆ 2 months ago
bob, thank you for such a kind comment. to date, i've made about 55 short videos in the past 22 months. of course a few of them went straight into the garbage bin, but in most every case i've enjoyed the experimentation that takes place. to be honest, i don't plan much ahead of time, and often i have no idea what i'm doing. i just trust my senses and go with what feels right. things often seem to come together on their own accord. ;) thank you for your note!
