The greenest bash of the season came to Grand Rapids last night, and Friends of Grand Rapids Parks let the GRSD be a part of it! The Green Gala became the first-of-its kind of fundraising event. Friends of Grand Rapids Parks raised money through ticket sales aimed to advance their mission to protect, enhance and expand parks and public spaces in the city. Not to mention, put on a very cool event!
Green Gala guests arrived to a beautifully decorated 'Green' atmosphere. From green table clothes, to chalk decorations Green Gala guests enjoyed complimentary green cocktails and local brews and delicious, locally sourced appetizers. Hogs and Owls played during cocktail hour, announcements were made by event emcee, Valerie Lego as well as Andy Dragt and Steve Faber, Friends of Grand Rapids Parks. Parks announced the Parks Alive Campaign to benefit parks in our community in 2012. After the announcement, guests to the dance floor and experienced "Dancethink Music' by Ann Arbor talent, Ella Riot. Local photographer, Terry Johnston, captured the event highlights with a playground photo booth. People were also strolling along the Riverwalk Pathways and through Fish Ladder Park, colorful faygo pop ice cream floats. You can see Terry's shots by clicking here.
Kudos to the event organizer's of Green Gala. We were told that the companies that helped produce the evening's were all local and have national and international credits. All items used were compostable and recycleable. A GREAT GREEN event for being! Can't wait for next year!
